Sinaloa Cartel transporter pleads guilty to drug trafficking in US
Juan Hernández Ochoa, a 51-year-old Mexican national, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and marijuana for illegal importation into the United States. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Hernández Ochoa operated between 2015 and 2017 as a transporter, or ‘fletero’, for various traffickers associated with the Sinaloa Cartel.
Court documents reveal that Hernández Ochoa utilized a variety of methods to move narcotics from Mexican border cities into the U.S., including private planes, tunnels, semi-trailers, and vehicles equipped with hidden compartments. His sentencing is scheduled for February 2, 2027, and he faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
In a separate incident in California, authorities seized 360 kilograms of cocaine from an apartment in San Bernardino County. José María Mena Rosales, a 38-year-old Mexican national who had previously been deported twice in 2014, was arrested in connection with the seizure. The investigation began in February 2026 after intelligence suggested a Mexico-based trafficking organization was delivering the drugs to a public parking lot in Fontana, California.
