Mocorito, Mexico hit by record rains, 70 homes damaged and emergency response underway
Intense rainfall on July 29‑30, 2026 delivered a record 202 mm of precipitation to Mocorito, Sinaloa, the highest amount recorded this season. The deluge caused widespread flooding across communities such as Boca de Arroyo, El Pochote, El Progreso, El Guasimal, Las Juntas and Palmar de los Leal, damaging more than 70 homes and destroying furniture, appliances and clothing in many cases.
State civil‑protection chief Roy Navarrete Cuevas coordinated with municipal authorities to assess damage, deploy assistance units and advise residents to avoid flooded roads, bridges and watercourses. Municipal social‑development director Reginel Santos Cervantes led field surveys, confirming damage to bridges, road sections and water‑pumping infrastructure managed by the Junta Municipal de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado de Mocorito (JMAPAM). Officials urged the public to follow safety precautions and contact emergency services as recovery efforts continue.
