Sinaloa Congress reviews reforms to state Penal Code

The Permanent Deputation of the Sinaloa State Congress has reviewed six new legislative initiatives. Four of these proposals seek various reforms and additions to the Penal Code for the State of Sinaloa.

One initiative, presented by Deputy Erika Rubí Martínez Rodríguez of Morena, proposes reforms regarding domestic violence. The proposal seeks to increase the minimum penalty for domestic violence from one year to three years. It also suggests that perpetrators lose rights regarding the victims, including inheritance rights, and must undergo specialized psychotherapeutic or re-educational treatment. Furthermore, the initiative proposes increasing penalties by up to one-third in cases of recidivism, threats, violence committed in the presence of minors, or when the victim is a minor, a person with a disability, an elderly person, or a pregnant woman.

Another initiative, presented by Deputy Moncerrat López López of the PT, proposes additions to Article 272 of the Penal Code to sanction the illegal practice of medicine and establish aggravating circumstances for such offenses.
