Sinaloa Electoral Institute completes indigenous consultation stages

The Electoral Institute of the State of Sinaloa (IEES) has concluded the informative and consultative stages of its indigenous consultation process. This initiative involves a prior, free, and informed consultation with indigenous peoples and communities in the central, northern, and southern regions of Sinaloa.

The consultation focuses on qualified self-identification and affirmative actions regarding the nomination of candidates for municipal and deputy positions in the 2026-2027 local electoral process. During the informative stage, communities received details on their political-electoral rights and the criteria for self-identification. The consultative stage allowed for dialogue, where the IEES received proposals, observations, and suggestions from participants.

Meetings were held in various municipalities, including Mazatlán, Navolato, Ahome, El Fuerte, and Juan José Ríos. The process was led by the Commission for Gender Equality and Human Rights, including electoral counselors Marisol Quevedo González, Judith Gabriela López Del Rincón, Martín González Burgos, Carmen Julieta Rodríguez Campos, and Yuridia Jaretssy Galán Villaseñor.
