Sinaloa security: Homicide rates drop as arrests follow attacks and kidnappings
Mexican security authorities have reported several developments in Sinaloa. Officials noted a 26.1 percent reduction in the daily average of intentional homicides in the state compared to the same period in 2025. Despite this, Sinaloa remains the fourth highest state for intentional homicides, with 866 cases recorded between January and August.
In Culiacán, security forces arrested four individuals suspected of being generators of violence following an armed attack on federal protection agents on Highway 15. During the operation, authorities seized three firearms, 30 magazines, 502 cartridges, ballistic vests, and a stolen vehicle with Texas plates.
Additionally, federal and state agents arrested two men, identified as Ángel ‘N’ (alias ‘Tronco’) and Milton ‘N’, in connection with the kidnapping of 10 miners that occurred in January. The operation resulted in the seizure of long weapons, a grenade launcher attachment, ammunition, drugs, and tactical equipment.
Nationally, the government reported the seizure of 34,353 firearms during the first eight months of 2026, with approximately 80 percent of these weapons originating from the United States.
