Sinaloa schools implement rainwater harvesting systems

The Secretariat of Welfare and Sustainable Development (SEBIDES) is implementing the ‘Escuelas con Agua’ (Schools with Water) program in Sinaloa to improve access to clean water in educational institutions. The initiative utilizes Rainwater Harvesting Systems (SCALL) to support schools facing limited water resources.

To date, 29 schools in the municipalities of Culiacán, Ahome, and Mazatlán have been equipped with this technology. The project is being carried out through management by the Directorate of Water and Energy of SEBIDES, with technical installation and support provided by the private sector organization Isla Urbana.

Francisco Javier Barrón Aguayo, head of SEBIDES, emphasized that the program aims to foster a culture of responsible water use and sustainable management among students from an early age, while also improving health conditions within the schools.
