Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah calls for tailored financial services for rural communities
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has called for a shift in financial inclusion strategies, urging that focus move beyond merely opening bank accounts toward creating practical, client-centered products. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 10th Annual Microfinance Conference in Karachi, Shah emphasized that financial services must be tailored to the specific risks and needs of farmers, rural households, women, and small businesses.
During the two-day event, experts discussed topics including agricultural financing, climate resilience, digital innovation, and artificial intelligence. Shah advocated for an integrated approach to poverty reduction, stating that access to credit must be combined with skills training, enterprise development, and housing assistance.
He highlighted the Sindh People’s Poverty Reduction Program and the EU-supported PAIDAR Programme, implemented by UNIDO, as examples of collaborative efforts to expand rural services and enterprise development. Shah noted that addressing poverty requires coordinated action between governments, financial institutions, regulators, and development partners.
