Sindh government to provide free electric scooters to 50,000 women

The Sindh provincial government has announced a plan to provide free electric scooters to 50,000 women to improve mobility and independence. Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the initiative aims to help women access affordable transportation for work, education, and social activities.

To qualify for the program, women must hold a permanent driving license and successfully pass a driving test; learner licenses are not sufficient. The government noted a significant increase in women obtaining licenses, rising from 154 at the launch of the scheme to 50,000 applicants.

Authorities have warned that the scooters are exclusively for women. Following reports of recipients altering scooter colors for use by men, the government plans to conduct surprise inspections and will confiscate vehicles if they are found being used by men in violation of the program's conditions.
