Sindh High Court seeks explanation for ‘Ghost School’ film ban

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the Sindh Board of Film Censors (SBFC) to reconsider its decision to block the screening of the film ‘Ghost School’ and to resolve the filmmakers’ review petition within two weeks.

A two-member constitutional bench, including Justice Adnanul Karim Memon and Justice Muhammad Jafar Raza, heard the petition filed by the film’s makers. The filmmakers argued that the film had already received approval from both the federal censor board and the Punjab Film Censor Board, yet it remains barred from screening in areas administered by the Sindh government.

During the proceedings, the court questioned the SBFC regarding the specific reasons for the ban. Justice Memon remarked, “Are there any ghosts in the film that permission is not being granted?” in response to the board's lack of clarity. The SBFC Secretary, Adil Ahmed, stated he could not immediately disclose the details, citing the board's jurisdiction. The court warned that relevant facts cannot be withheld from the judiciary and ordered the authorities to provide complete information and decide the matter in accordance with the law.
