Sindh High Court suspends K-Electric tariff orders

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has suspended disputed tariff orders and related notifications concerning K-Electric. The court issued notices to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and other involved parties, scheduling the next hearing for October 15, 2026.

K-Electric challenged decisions made by the NEPRA Appellate Tribunal on September 23, 2026, as well as earlier tariff review determinations. Legal counsel for K-Electric argued that while NEPRA possesses the authority to review tariff decisions, it cannot use the review process to determine a tariff afresh or use suo motu powers to make unlawful changes.

The dispute centers on K-Electric’s Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) for the fiscal years 2024 to 2030. The company maintains that the disputed review decisions have a substantial financial impact and that the resulting tariff structure is not financially sustainable.

In a separate development, NEPRA notified an additional Rs1.11 per unit fuel price adjustment for August, which is expected to be recovered from consumers in their October electricity bills. This adjustment is estimated to impose an additional burden of Rs19 billion on consumers, though it will not apply to lifeline consumers.
