Sindh Ombudsman investigates private school fee hikes
The Sindh Ombudsman, Muhammad Sohail Rajput, has initiated an investigation into private schools following numerous complaints from parents regarding arbitrary fee increases and other exploitative practices.
During a hearing attended by senior education officials, parents reported that many schools are violating regulations by implementing annual fee hikes. Additional grievances include compulsory uniform changes every two years and the requirement to purchase textbooks and educational materials from specific vendors at inflated prices. Some parents noted that schools prevent younger siblings from using previously purchased books, forcing families to buy new sets annually.
Ombudsman Rajput has directed the Director General of Private Schools to submit a detailed report by August 25, 2026. He stated that strict action will be taken against any institutions found to be violating existing laws and fee regulations.
