Sindh Province Declares Chehlum School Holiday and Revises College Timings

The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department announced that all government and private schools in the province will be closed on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, to observe the religious occasion of Chehlum. The one‑day holiday applies uniformly across Sindh and follows a steering‑committee approval earlier in the year.

Separately, the Sindh Department of College Education issued new operating hours for government colleges effective 1 August. Morning‑shift colleges will run 8:30 am–1:30 pm (Monday‑Thursday, Saturday) and end at 11:30 am on Friday, while evening‑shift colleges will operate 3:00 pm–7:00 pm (Monday‑Thursday, Saturday) and 2:30 pm–5:00 pm on Friday. The notification also imposes an immediate ban on tobacco, vaping products, nicotine pouches, paan and gutka within all college premises in Karachi, with college principals instructed to enforce the restriction and local authorities asked to curb sales nearby.
