Sindjor-MA re-elects Leonardo Sampaio as president

Leonardo Sampaio has been re-elected as president of the Journalists' Union of Maranhão (Sindjor-MA) for the 2026-2030 term. The new board was elected on Tuesday, August 25.

The administration has established several core priorities, including the defense of press professionals, the strengthening of freedom of expression, and the protection of source confidentiality. The union also plans to expand its presence within the interior of the state, targeting municipalities such as Imperatriz, Caxias, Codó, Santa Inês, Bacabal, Pinheiro, and Açailândia to provide better access to legal counsel, training, and professional representation.

Additionally, the new leadership intends to modernize the union's bylaws to improve internal organization, membership processes, and oversight, while encouraging greater participation from journalists in decision-making processes.
