Sinduscon implements career plan to combat labor shortages
The Sinduscon of São Paulo has launched a strategic career development plan to prevent young professionals from leaving the construction industry for gig economy roles, such as delivery and ride-sharing services.
In partnership with Senai, the initiative aims to standardize job titles and salary structures across construction sites. The plan replaces traditional terms like 'servente' (helper) and 'pedreiro' (mason) with more professional designations, such as 'auxiliar de produção' (production assistant) and 'oficial de produção' (production official).
Under this new model, career advancement will be based on standardized exams and technical training provided by Senai rather than seniority or personal relationships with supervisors. The program is currently being piloted in ten companies in São Paulo and features a seven-stage career ladder. Top-tier roles, such as senior master builder, can potentially reach monthly salaries of up to R$ 25,000 after approximately a decade of experience.
