Sing Democracy 250 choral concert to be featured on PBS

The national PBS broadcast “Sing Democracy 250” will feature the College of St. Scholastica’s Chamber Choir in a special choral concert marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Filmed at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, the performance includes the Chamber Choir alongside nearly 200 singers from various high school, college, and community ensembles, accompanied by a 60-piece orchestra.

Conducted by G. Phillip Shoultz III, the program includes the world premiere of Steven Amundson’s “Fanfare: Democracy 250” and new works such as “Redeem the Dream” by Brandon A. Boyd and “US” by Michael Bussewitz-Quarm. The concert aims to use music as a tool for community and unity during a period of social division. The Minneapolis event was one of four signature concerts held in major cities, including Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington, D.C. The broadcast is scheduled to premiere on Friday, September 25.
