Singapore AI data center testbed gains Johnson Controls and Yokogawa
Johnson Controls and Yokogawa Electric Corporation have joined the Sustainable Tropical Data Centre Testbed 2.0 (STDCT 2.0) consortium in Singapore. The research programme is hosted by the National University of Singapore’s College of Design and Engineering to develop efficient AI infrastructure capable of operating in tropical environments.
Located on Jurong Island, the initiative aims to address the high power, water, and space constraints associated with scaling AI workloads in hot and humid climates. The project is part of a broader effort with JTC Corporation to establish Jurong Island as a hub for low-carbon, AI-ready infrastructure.
Johnson Controls is contributing expertise in thermal management and smart controls, with modeled designs suggesting a potential 50 per cent reduction in non-IT energy consumption. Yokogawa will utilize its industrial automation and autonomous operations capabilities to enhance energy optimization and asset reliability within the next-generation data center environments.
