Singapore Airlines faces 780 million USD loss from Air India stake
Singapore Airlines (SIA) has recorded approximately 780 million USD in operational losses related to its 25.1% stake in Air India. This financial strain comes less than two years after SIA entered the Indian carrier's capital following the merger of Vistara, a joint venture between SIA and Tata Sons, with Air India in November 2024.
In addition to the operational losses, SIA has injected roughly 772 million USD in capital into the airline. The turnaround of Air India has proven more difficult than anticipated due to a combination of factors, including the need to modernize fleets and operations, rising costs, supply chain disruptions, and the closure of Pakistani airspace. One official described the recent period for Air India as an “annus horribilis” due to these compounding challenges.
