Singapore Airlines Requires 1,000 KrisFlyer Miles to Search Award Flights

Singapore Airlines has introduced a new restriction on its KrisFlyer frequent‑flyer programme: members with no miles in their account can no longer search for award seats online. The airline now requires a minimum balance of 1,000 KrisFlyer miles before the award‑search function will operate; accounts below this threshold receive an “Unable to proceed” error and are redirected to a limited “Flight Recommender” tool.

The change is aimed at curbing automated mileage‑scraping services that create numerous burner accounts to monitor award availability. While the policy may protect the airline’s reservation system, it also inconveniences legitimate members who wish to view availability before acquiring enough miles. Affected travelers can still call KrisFlyer membership services or transfer points from partner programs to meet the requirement, but the online search experience is now more restrictive.
