Singapore Airlines sued after turbulence causes death and injury
Linda Kitchen has initiated High Court proceedings against Singapore Airlines following a severe turbulence incident in May 2024 that resulted in the death of her husband, Geoff Kitchen, and serious injuries to herself.
The incident occurred approximately 10 hours into a flight from London Heathrow to Singapore, as the aircraft encountered extreme turbulence over Myanmar. The plane reportedly dropped about 6,000 feet (1,828 meters), prompting the deployment of oxygen masks and an emergency diversion to Bangkok, Thailand.
During the sudden descent, Geoff Kitchen, 73, was fatally injured and is understood to have suffered a heart attack. Linda Kitchen, 74, sustained significant spinal injuries when her husband fell on her, pinning her against an armrest. She is seeking damages to fund specialist medical support for her back injuries.
