Singapore and Australia Sign Pacts to Secure Unrestricted Flow of Essential Goods and Defence Supplies

On 27 July 2026 Singapore and Australia signed two binding agreements during the 15th Singapore‑Australia Joint Ministerial Committee meeting in Adelaide. The pacts add a legally‑binding clause to their free‑trade agreement that prevents either side from imposing export restrictions on diesel, liquefied natural gas and other essential commodities, and they extend cooperation on defence supplies.

Singapore Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing said the agreements rest on a deep “reservoir of trust” between the two nations and are meant to bolster economic and supply‑chain resilience. Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles highlighted the energy partnership’s importance amid recent global energy shocks, while Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong noted that Singapore supplies about 55% of Australia’s gasoline, 23% of its aviation fuel and 15% of its diesel.

Both governments framed the deals as part of a broader strategic partnership that includes regular ministerial dialogue and a focus on coordinating responses to potential disruptions in critical supply chains.
