Singapore and China to boost ASEAN cooperation via AI and green economy

Singapore and China should collaborate to strengthen development across Southeast Asia, focusing on the digital and green economies, according to Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong. Speaking at the annual FutureChina Global Forum on September 25, Gan emphasized that the two nations should leverage decades of mutual trust to build regional capabilities within ASEAN.

Gan identified artificial intelligence and industrial upgrading as critical areas for joint efforts. He noted that the Singapore-China Digital Policy Dialogue provides a framework for sharing views on AI governance and data. Furthermore, he highlighted that combining China’s pursuit of industrial innovation with Singapore’s economic strategies can create new growth opportunities.

Addressing geopolitical tensions, Gan warned against the risks of protectionism and inward-looking economies. He advocated for maintaining connectivity and openness to ensure businesses and workers can thrive amidst shifting global dynamics.
