Singapore boosts AI strategy with new AISG chief and minister on AI for Good commission

Singapore has honored Professor Ho for his tenure as the founding executive chairman of AI Singapore (AISG), during which the agency delivered more than 300 AI projects and trained nearly 500 AI engineers through initiatives such as the AI Apprenticeship Programme, the 100 Experiments initiative and the AISG PhD fellowship. Professor Wolfrum will succeed Ho as AISG chief, tasked with expanding the research ecosystem and sustaining collaborations between the public sector, academia and industry to keep Singapore competitive in AI.

At the same time, Singapore’s Minister for Digital Development and Information, Josephine Teo, was appointed a founding member of the AI for Good Global Commission. The commission, launched by Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff and ITU Secretary‑General Doreen Bogdan‑Martin, gathers heads of state, technology CEOs and UN leaders to develop practical pathways for trustworthy, inclusive AI and to narrow the digital divide affecting an estimated 2.2 billion people. Teo’s inclusion reflects Singapore’s ongoing effort to shape international AI governance while reinforcing its domestic AI talent pipeline.

Together, the leadership transition at AISG and Singapore’s participation in the global AI commission underscore the city‑state’s ambition to be a hub for AI innovation and a voice in shaping global AI policy.
