Singapore climate insurance uptake reaches 16%
A study by Singlife and the Sustainable and Green Finance Institute (SGFIN) at the National University of Singapore reveals a significant gap between climate awareness and practical action among Singapore residents.
According to the Singlife-SGFIN Sustainable Future Index 2026, only 16% of 1,500 surveyed Singaporeans and Permanent Residents have purchased insurance products designed to mitigate climate-related risks. However, there is notable future intent, with 40% of respondents planning to acquire such insurance within the next 12 months.
The research indicates that personal ownership is a much stronger driver of sustainable behavior than mere awareness or knowledge. Specifically, ownership accounts for 74% of sustainability action, while awareness and knowledge account for 18% and 8%, respectively. The survey, conducted between September and October 2025, assessed 25 sustainability actions across categories including responsible investing, climate action, inclusive solutions, and society and culture. The overall sustainability action score for the index was 56 out of 100.
