Singapore company and three individuals charged in mattress origin fraud scheme
Three individuals and a Singapore-registered company, Healthy Living Biotech, have been charged in court for an alleged scheme to misdeclare the origin of mattresses exported to the United States. Investigators from Singapore Customs found that products manufactured in China were stamped with “Made in Singapore” labels to evade US import duties.
The alleged operation ran from August 2024 to September 2025 and involved goods valued at approximately S$1.9 million (US$1.5 million). In addition to charges of making false declarations and applying incorrect trade descriptions, Healthy Living Biotech, Yin Yuxi, and Bernard Koh Wee Yiap face charges related to the alleged evasion of roughly S$111,000 in Goods and Services Tax (GST) through the under-declaration of import values.
This investigation follows a White House report identifying Singapore as one of many trading partners potentially used to circumvent US tariffs on Chinese goods through illegal transshipment. Singapore Customs stated that such conduct undermines the integrity of trade documentation and risks damaging the nation's reputation as a trusted global trade hub.
