Singapore coordinates rescue of 25 crew from MSC Hermes III
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) of Singapore coordinated the successful rescue of 25 crew members from the Liberian-flagged container ship MSC Hermes III. The vessel was navigating through the South China Sea, approximately 300 kilometers east of Vietnam, when it issued a distress signal.
Following the alert, three nearby vessels responded to the call. The MSC Ruby successfully recovered all 25 crew members from a lifeboat. No injuries were reported among the rescued personnel. While the exact cause of the emergency that forced the evacuation remains unknown, the MSC Hermes III is reported to be drifting northeast in the South China Sea.
Singaporean authorities are currently coordinating with the Vietnamese MRCC to facilitate the safe return of the crew to land.
