Singapore couple spends 3,300 SGD monthly on rental housing

Mathilda Huang, a 31-year-old living in Singapore, has prioritized independent living despite high rental costs. Having moved out of her parents' home six years ago during the COVID-19 pandemic to avoid crowded living conditions, Huang has maintained a separate household even after marrying in 2021.

While the couple initially managed rent of approximately 1,900 SGD per month through four combined income streams, financial difficulties arose in 2022 due to Huang’s health issues and significant medical expenses totaling 23,000 SGD. Despite these challenges, the couple chose to increase their workload rather than return to their parents' home. Currently, their third rental property, including utilities and service fees, costs approximately 3,300 SGD per month.
