Singapore Exchange CEO Loh Boon Chye calls for succession planning
Loh Boon Chye, the CEO of Singapore Exchange (SGX), has called for the commencement of leadership succession planning. Although his current contract does not expire until mid-July 2027, Loh informed the chairman that the process for finding a future successor should begin.
Loh has led the bourse operator since July 2015. The call for a transition comes as SGX aims to expand its securities, derivatives, and foreign exchange businesses. This occurs amidst broader efforts in Singapore to reinvigorate its equities market and attract more listings, including recent initiatives such as tax rebates for primary listings and a framework for dual listings on the SGX and Nasdaq.
Market analysts suggest that while succession planning itself should not hinder growth, a clear and credible handover plan is essential to prevent uncertainty from weighing on investor sentiment.
