Singapore explores AI and blockchain convergence for digital finance

Singapore is positioning itself as a testing ground for the convergence of artificial intelligence and blockchain through the Agentic Decentralized Finance Forum. Held on August 6, 2026, during SMEICC 2026 at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, the forum explored how autonomous AI agents could transition from market analysts to active participants in commerce.

Discussions focused on the infrastructure required to support machine-driven commerce, including payment rails, settlement systems, digital identity, and tokenized real-world assets. Experts, including StraitsX CEO Tianwei Liu, noted that as AI agents gain the ability to initiate payments and manage treasury functions, there will be an increased demand for secure, compliant systems that allow software to transfer value independently.

The forum, supported by the Singapore Innovation Centre and the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also served as a precursor to Singapore Blockchain Week, which is scheduled for November 13–17, 2026.
