Singapore food delivery duopoly sparks consumer fears of rising costs

Following Deliveroo’s exit from the Singapore market in March 2026, the food delivery sector has consolidated into a duopoly dominated by GrabFood and foodpanda. A report by Blackbox Research indicates that 92% of active users now default to one of these two platforms.

Consumers expressed significant concern regarding reduced competition. Approximately 85% of Singaporeans fear rising delivery charges, while 84% expect higher menu prices and platform fees. Additionally, 69% believe the lack of competition will lead to diminished customer service.

The research also highlighted issues with restaurant exclusivity. About 83% of consumers believe restaurants should be listed across multiple platforms rather than being locked into single-app arrangements. The study found that 54% of users have switched to a non-preferred app specifically to access a restaurant, and 81% of those who encountered exclusivity reported negative consequences, such as higher costs or loss of promotions.
