Singapore: Governance and urban living evolution
Singapore is characterized by its unique governance and urban living environment. Often described as ‘Singapore Inc.’, the nation operates with a business-like efficiency focused on innovation and economic performance, which has contributed to a high quality of life for its citizens.
In terms of residential life, the country’s public housing, managed by the Housing & Development Board (HDB), is considered high-quality but faces specific challenges regarding privacy. Older slab-block designs often feature windows facing shared corridors, leading to visibility and noise issues. To address this, newer architectural designs have moved toward stacked configurations that direct bedroom windows outward to improve privacy, lighting, and ventilation.
