Singapore implements stricter fines for disruptive bus passenger behavior

Singapore has implemented stricter regulations for passenger behavior on public buses to improve safety and comfort. Effective as of September 23, the new rules target disruptive conduct.

Passengers may face fines of approximately 340 euros for offenses such as playing loud music, using speakerphones, eating or drinking on the bus, leaving litter behind, or placing feet on seats. More severe violations, including endangering or obstructing passengers at bus stops or defacing bus and terminal property, can result in fines of up to approximately 3,440 euros.

Enforcement will be conducted by bus company employees, such as ticket inspectors and station staff, who will record violations for investigation by the Land Transport Authority (LTA). While bus drivers are not responsible for reporting violations, they are authorized to address disruptive passengers and may ask them to exit the vehicle if necessary. Police involvement is possible in serious cases.
