Singapore Lions fall 3-1 to Thailand in ASEAN semi-final first leg
Singapore’s national football team, the Lions, suffered a 3-1 defeat against Thailand in the first leg of the ASEAN Championship semi-finals at Jalan Besar Stadium. Despite trailing 2-0 at half-time, the team managed to score once before the match concluded.
Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Senior Minister of State Tan Kiat How attended the match to support the team. Tan Kiat How encouraged the players to keep fighting, while President Tharman expressed support for the team on social media, noting that they earned the crowd's respect despite the loss.
Midfielder Shah Shahiran, who drew inspiration from Singapore’s 2012 title win, expressed his determination to help the team overturn the deficit in the upcoming return leg in Bangkok.
