Singapore LTA seeks noise mitigation for Thomson-East Coast Line

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is seeking quotes for the installation of noise mitigation devices along specific sections of the Thomson-East Coast Line in Singapore. The initiative follows feedback regarding high noise levels caused by tight track curves.

The devices, known as track dampers, will be installed to reduce vibrations and noise emissions as trains pass over them. Targeted areas include sections between Springleaf and Lentor stations, Stevens and Napier stations, and Bright Hill and Upper Thomson stations.

In previous communications, the LTA noted that while most underground MRT lines maintain noise levels within an 85-decibel limit, certain sections of the Thomson-East Coast Line might exceed this threshold. The authority previously implemented measures such as reducing train speeds and smoothing track surfaces, and is now testing these new mitigation tools to further address the issue.
