Singapore man charged for alleged fire outside Raffles Place mosque

A 50-year-old Chinese man has been charged in court for allegedly causing or contributing to the risk of a dangerous fire in Singapore.

According to the Singapore Police Force, the incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, outside Masjid Moulana Mohamed Ali at Raffles Place. Preliminary investigations suggest the man placed an oil tin at the mosque entrance and set fire to an undergarment inside the tin before leaving the area.

A member of the public extinguished the fire, and no injuries were reported. Police identified the suspect using ground enquiries and camera footage, subsequently seizing a lighter as evidence. The charge carries a potential penalty of up to one year in jail, a fine, or both. The police have not released a motive for the act.
