Singapore PM Lawrence Wong begins first Middle East visit to Qatar and UAE
Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is conducting his first official visit to the Middle East, traveling to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates from October 18 to 22. The mission, held at the invitation of regional leaders, aims to strengthen cooperation in energy security and economic resilience.
In Qatar, Wong will meet with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The leaders are scheduled to co-chair the ninth Qatar-Singapore High-Level Joint Committee, a strategic platform for bilateral relations established in 2006. Energy security is a critical focus, as Qatar provides approximately 25 per cent of Singapore’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports.
In the United Arab Emirates, Wong will visit Abu Dhabi and Dubai. His itinerary includes meetings with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, as well as Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Dubai. The visit serves to reaffirm Singapore’s support for regional dialogue and diplomacy.
