Massive Attack banned from Singapore after Palestinian flag display
The British trip‑hop duo Massive Attack performed at Singapore’s Star Theatre on 29 July 2026. During the show the band unfurled a Palestinian flag and audience members shouted “Free Palestine”. Singapore police opened an investigation, detained the two members Robert Del Naja and Grant Marshall, isolated them for separate questioning, searched their hotel rooms and temporarily confiscated passports. Both musicians received stern warnings and were barred from re‑entering Singapore, and authorities said any future concert applications would be denied. The band posted on Instagram that they were “surprised and disappointed”, calling the incident a “surreal experience” and a reminder of the need to defend human rights and freedom of expression. Singapore’s law prohibits the public display of foreign national emblems without a permit, citing the Foreign National Emblems (Control of Display) Act and public order concerns about racial and religious harmony.
