Singapore President Tharman greets India on 80th Independence Day
Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam extended greetings to Indian President Droupadi Murmu on the occasion of India's 80th Independence Day. In his message, President Tharman highlighted the strong, future-oriented comprehensive strategic partnership between Singapore and India, emphasizing deep people-to-people ties.
He noted expanding bilateral cooperation in key sectors including skill development, digitalization, sustainability, and advanced manufacturing. President Tharman affirmed Singapore's commitment to strengthening regional integration and resilience with India, an ASEAN dialogue partner, particularly in trade, the digital economy, and energy security. The two nations are set to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations in 2025.
In a separate domestic address at the President's Scholarship award ceremony, President Tharman emphasized that Singapore must adapt to global changes and maintain its long-standing convictions. He noted that the demands of public service will continue to evolve and become more complex in the coming years.
