Singapore Rail Training Academy partners with five educational institutions

The Singapore Rail Training Academy is collaborating with five educational institutions to provide formal vocational training opportunities for railway employees. This partnership includes the Institute of Technical Education, Nanyang Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, and Singapore Institute of Technology.

The initiative aims to integrate industry-led on-the-job training and professional certifications into diploma and degree programs. Announced by Transport Minister and Second Finance Minister Chee Hong Tat, the program is part of a comprehensive restructuring of the Singapore Rail Training Academy scheduled to begin in November.

Through this arrangement, training from the Land Transport Authority (LTA), SMRT, and SBS Transit will be integrated into formal curricula. This is intended to facilitate easier entry for students into the sector and allow current employees to enhance their higher education qualifications. The Land Transport Authority aims to certify 20 percent of its workforce under this scheme, which will extend training to both engineers and technical staff.
