Singapore ranked as the world's noisiest country

Singapore has been ranked as the noisiest country in the world according to the latest Noise-Free Nations Index compiled by travel agency Go2Africa. The index evaluates countries based on seven indicators to determine which locations offer the best tranquility for travelers, including population density, number of tourists, rural land area, protected areas, motor vehicle volume, airports, and railway networks.

Singapore received a low tranquility score of 6.78 out of 10. Several factors contributed to this ranking, primarily its status as a city-state with high population density—approximately 8,436 residents per square kilometer—and high tourist density, with 23,609 tourists per square kilometer. Additionally, only about 30 percent of the country consists of rural land, limiting quiet spaces.

The nation's extensive transportation infrastructure also plays a significant role. The high density of motor vehicles, the presence of Changi Airport, and the extensive Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) network, which serves over three million passengers daily, contribute to the elevated noise levels.
