Singapore stock market ends winning streak as STI falls
The Singapore stock market ended a two-day winning streak on Tuesday, with the Straits Times Index (STI) falling 14.18 points, or 0.25 percent, to close at 5,714.84. Losses in the financial, communications, technology, and industrial sectors were partially offset by gains in resource and utility stocks.
Market sentiment remains cautious globally as investors await key U.S. inflation data, which is expected to influence the outlook for interest rates ahead of the Federal Reserve's next monetary policy meeting. This caution was reflected in weak performance on Wall Street, where the Dow, NASDAQ, and S&P 500 all saw declines.
In the commodities market, West Texas Intermediate crude prices fell 3.1 percent to $89.70 a barrel. The decline followed reports that crude oil exports from Saudi Arabian Red Sea ports are recovering after a pipeline attack earlier this month.
