Singapore to renew Malay/Muslim political leadership
During the 2026 National Day Rally, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced that Singapore’s team of Malay/Muslim office-holders and Members of Parliament will undergo continuous renewal and strengthening. He noted that younger office-holders are stepping up, citing individuals such as Minister of State Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim and Senior Parliamentary Secretary Syed Harun Alhabsyi, both of whom bring private sector experience as a lawyer and a psychiatrist, respectively.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the current team is actively driving initiatives like the Committee for Economic Resilience. This committee, led by MPs Wan Rizal Wan Zakariah and Saktiandi Supaat, aims to prepare Malay/Muslim workers and businesses for economic shifts by supporting youth skill development and exposure to growing sectors.
Furthermore, PM Wong mentioned the expansion of the M3 partnership—a collaboration between Mendaki, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore, and the People’s Association Malay Activity Executive Committees Council—into M3+. This expansion is intended to bring more resources and partners to support the community. The efforts are being led by Zaqy Mohamad, the newly appointed Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs.
