Singaporean man charged with weapon possession and obstructing police in Johor Bahru

Gary Lim Kian Liang, a 46-year-old Singaporean restaurant owner, has pleaded not guilty to three charges in a Johor Bahru court. The charges include the unauthorized possession of an 8.5-centimeter knife, obstructing a police officer in the performance of his duties, and intentionally causing injury to a 30-year-old local woman using a knife.

The incidents reportedly occurred in the early hours of August 15 near the Sultan Iskandar Building. Lim faces potential penalties under the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, as well as the Penal Code.

Defense counsel S. Selvanteran noted that the accused supports a wife and an elderly mother, lacks a steady income, and suffers from major depression requiring continuous medical treatment. The court set bail at RM20,000, with the case scheduled for mention on September 25.
