Singapore's CPF retains 'A' grade in global pension rankings

Singapore’s Central Provident Fund (CPF) has maintained its “A” rating for the second consecutive year in the Marsh CFA Institute Global Pension Index. The CPF, the first Asian pension system to achieve this grade, saw its overall score increase from 80.8 to 82.

In the 2026 index, Australia’s social security system also earned an “A” rating, bringing the total number of top-tier retirement systems in the Asia-Pacific region to two. Other nations receiving the highest rating include the Netherlands, which achieved the top score of 85.8, as well as Denmark, Iceland, and Israel.

The Marsh “A” rating is reserved for “first-class” retirement income systems characterized by sustainability, robust benefits, and high integrity. The 2026 study expanded its scope to examine 55 retirement income systems worldwide, addressing global trends such as declining birth rates and rising life expectancies. To account for aging populations, the index adjusted its adequacy sub-index to evaluate income availability at both retirement and age 80.
