Singer Alfredo Soares dies in motorcycle accident on A24
Portuguese singer Alfredo Soares, known for the song ‘Portugal, Tenho Saudade’, died following a motorcycle accident on the A24 highway near Vila Real on Monday morning.
Reports indicate the collision occurred around 09:08 at kilometer 83.800, involving the motorcycle and a vehicle that was stationary due to a breakdown. Soares, 65, suffered cardiorespiratory arrest and was pronounced dead after being transported to the Vila Real Hospital.
A woman approximately 60 years old, who was traveling with the singer, sustained serious injuries and was stabilized at the scene before being taken to the same hospital for treatment.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, with sun glare being considered as a possible factor. The Criminal Investigation Nucleus for Road Accidents conducted on-site forensics to clarify the dynamics of the collision.
