Ho Chi Minh City court begins trial for 227 in VN10 drug case
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Court has commenced the trial for 227 defendants involved in the major VN10 drug case. The proceedings, which include both in-person and online sessions, are expected to continue until September 12.
Among the high-profile defendants are singer Nguyen Trung Hieu (known as Chi Dan), model An Tay, and Nguyen Do Truc Phuong. The VN10 case stems from a March 2023 incident at Tan Son Nhat airport, where authorities discovered over 11 kilograms of drugs concealed in toothpaste tubes within the luggage of four flight attendants traveling from France.
During the trial, the prosecution stated that Chi Dan and his brother, Nguyen Trung Tin, are accused of organizing the illegal use of drugs. This includes discussing and preparing locations, tools, and funding to purchase Ketamine and MDMA. While Chi Dan requested the court correct his charges to reflect only illegal drug use rather than organization, the prosecution's indictment maintains that he participated in organizing the drug use at a residence in Tan Binh District.
