Los Angeles judge hears evidence in D4vd murder case

Indie‑pop singer David Anthony Burke, known as D4vd, is charged with first‑degree murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and unlawful mutilation of human remains for the killing and dismemberment of 14‑year‑old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Prosecutors allege Burke began a sexual relationship with the girl when she was 11 and she was 18, and that she threatened to expose the affair, prompting him to stab her and use chainsaws to dispose of her body. The teenager’s remains were found in September 2025 inside a Tesla registered to the singer, packed in cadaver bags along with a shovel, an inflatable pool and chainsaws ordered online. At a preliminary hearing that began on July 21, 2024, graphic photographs of the dismembered body were shown to the court; a family attorney said, “This is the first time they’ve heard this evidence in detail, and they’re horrified.” Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine Olmedo will decide whether probable cause exists to send the case to trial. Burke appeared in an orange jumpsuit, handcuffed to a chair, and has pleaded not guilty.
