Singer D4vd faces capital murder charges in Los Angeles

A judge has scheduled a status conference for January 11 for singer D4vd, born David Anthony Burke, who faces capital murder charges. Burke is accused of murdering 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose remains were discovered in the trunk of his Tesla at a Hollywood tow yard.

Burke pleaded not guilty on August 31 to murder and several other charges, including continuous sexual abuse of a child under age 14 and mutilation of human remains. The special circumstance allegations include lying in wait, murder for financial gain, and killing a witness. Following a preliminary hearing in July, Judge Charlaine Olmedo ruled there was sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.

Burke, who is being held without bail, is currently represented by the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office after his private attorneys withdrew from the case in August. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has not yet announced if it will seek the death penalty. In a statement, the victim's family expressed their desire for a death sentence.
