Singer Ho Yan-si defends moving son with Angelman Syndrome to Canada
Hong Kong singer Ho Yan-si has addressed online criticism regarding her decision to move her four-year-old son, who has Angelman Syndrome, to Vancouver, Canada. Ho explained that the move was made to provide her son with a better environment, citing superior support systems, greater social tolerance, and more accessible public spaces for children with special needs compared to Hong Kong.
Ho shared experiences of facing social stigma and “cold violence” in public settings, such as movie theaters and sporting events, due to her son’s unpredictable behaviors. To support her son while maintaining her career in Hong Kong, Ho and her husband, Fred Cheng, have adopted a “shift-based” lifestyle, traveling between Hong Kong and Canada to ensure their son is never without parental care.
Regarding her marriage, Ho described their current relationship as a “Team Asher” partnership, focusing entirely on their son’s welfare. She expressed confidence in her marriage despite the challenges of their long-distance arrangement and the physical and emotional toll of their current lifestyle.
