Singer Jan Wächter battles terminal adrenal cancer

Jan Wächter, a former contestant on the talent show ‘Deutschland sucht den Superstar’, is fighting terminal cancer. After being diagnosed with an adrenal carcinoma in 2025 following severe back pain and chest pains, Wächter underwent surgery to remove a large tumor. Although initial tablet therapy appeared successful and he was briefly considered cancer-free, he received a setback in July 2026 when metastases were discovered in his liver.

Wächter is currently receiving care at the University Hospital Heidelberg, where medical professionals are evaluating the most effective treatment options. The disease is exceptionally rare, with an average of only 100 people in Germany diagnosed with adrenal cancer annually, meaning research into potential cures remains limited.

The illness has also created significant financial challenges for the 37-year-old. As a self-employed social media manager who previously pursued music as a side profession, Wächter has had to cancel all professional contracts to focus on his recovery and is currently relying on sickness benefits.
