Singer Tueska denies legal claims by Wilfrido Vargas

Colombian singer Tueska has denied receiving any legal notification or lawsuit from Dominican musician Wilfrido Vargas regarding the use of the title ‘Las Chicas El reencuentro’. The title is used for a show featuring multiple generations of the group Las Chicas del Can.

Tueska stated that she has had the name registered with the National Office of Industrial Property (ONAPI) since 2024 and argued that the word ‘Chicas’ is generic and cannot be prohibited. She emphasized that she is acting under legal counsel and intends to respect all boundaries without causing conflict.

Regarding the group's repertoire, the merenguera explained that individual members frequently perform the songs in their own musical projects. She noted that while they can sing the songs freely, she acknowledges that any commercial use of the ‘Las Chicas del Can’ brand would require proper payment and responsibility.
